Understand TM match scores

When Taia finds a similar segment in your Translation Memory, it assigns a match score (0–100%) that tells you how closely the stored translation matches the current segment. Higher scores mean less editing is needed.

Score ranges

ScoreLabelWhat it means
100%Exact matchSource text is identical character-for-character
95–99%Near-exact matchSource differs by punctuation, casing, or whitespace only
75–94%Fuzzy matchSource is similar but has word-level differences; requires review
50–74%Low fuzzySome overlap; use as a starting point only
< 50%No match shownBelow threshold; TM does not surface these suggestions

There is also a special type of match called an in-project match — this is when the same or similar text appears elsewhere in the same file or project. These are treated like fuzzy matches but labelled separately.

How match scores affect price

For Professional Translation orders, segments with high TM match scores cost less per word because the linguist has less work to do:

  • 100% matches are charged at a reduced rate (exact repetitions)
  • Fuzzy matches are charged at a mid rate
  • No match segments are charged at the full rate

This is visible in the analysis breakdown on the quote page before you confirm an order.

Match scores in the CAT editor

In the CAT editor's Translation Memory sidebar, each suggested match shows its score as a badge. Click Insert on any match to copy it into the target editor, then edit as needed.
